The Utah Department of Health , Utah State Board of Education provide training and learning sessions to provide the new and experienced -school nurse with up-to-date, best practice information and resources to help them succeed in their role as a school nurse.

 

The Utah Department of Health (UDOH), Utah State Board of Education (USBE), and the Utah School Nurse Association (USNA) provide training and learning sessions to provide the new and experienced -school nurse with up-to-date, best practice information and resources to help them succeed in their role as a school nurse. Online School Nurse Orientation is not meant to replace but to supplement district level School Nurse Orientations. In addition to orientation materials this site contains other trainings to improve school nurse practice (via webinars), and training for school staff on chronic health conditions.

Orientation for School Nurses

A new online orientation has been developed for school nurses in Utah. This is presented as a Canvas course in collaboration with the Utah State Board of Education and can be done in any order at the participant's convenience. This course is open to all school nurses in Utah, whether new or experienced. 

The purpose of this orientation is to provide current, up-to-date information regarding school nursing practice in Utah. Just as there are geographical and population differences among school districts and charter schools, it is understood that roles and responsibilities of school nurses may vary as well. It is impossible to provide specifics for each school. This is provided to help school nurses understand the goal we are all striving for which is that all Utah students will be healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

School Nurse Summer Institute

Each summer a School Nurse Summer Institute is held.  This event will be cosponsored by the Utah Department of Health (HEAL Program) and the Utah State Board of Education (Safe and Healthy Schools Program).

The 2021 School Nurse Summer Institute was held virtually.  Next summer (2022) we hope to hold the event in person.  More information will be coming on this event.

Please view the appropriate presentation including the video, and print off the post-test to take to your trainer. The trainer will then go over student-specific information and hands-on training. You can print off the certificate if you wish to take to the trainer for a signature.
